BMW moved up two positions at the expense of the two worst-performing major brands: Mitsubishi Fuso sales fell by more than a fifth, while Volkswagen sales in Japan fell by more than a third.
Smaller foreign brands mainly enjoyed strong growth in Japan during the first quarter of 2021, although actual volume figures are very low compared to sales by major Japanese automakers. Peugeot and Citroen sales were up about 50%, while Jeep and Renault sales were up about a fifth. Volvo sales were weaker.

Japanese car buyers love the new and punish the old, and the start of 2021 was no different from this pattern: not a single car in the top ten was in the same position as a year ago.

the toyota roomy moved up to second place from ninth, while the toyota alphard is a new entrant to the list. last year’s best seller, the toyota corolla fell to fourth place.
the nissan ticket went from third to fifth: it was the best seller in the previous three years. The Nissan Serena jumped from sixth to ninth place, making the two Nissans the only non-Toyota models in the top ten best-selling cars in Japan so far in 2021.

the toyota harrier and the toyota voxy are new to the list while the raize slipped from second to eighth and the sit from fourth to tenth.
