Corey Barrett, best known for his main YouTube channel, Tall Men’s Car Reviews, grew up in a tough neighborhood in North Minneapolis. being a “fair-skinned brother with green eyes and curly hair” didn’t help matters. he had a hard time adjusting and often got into fights.
as a result, tall guys were always kicked out of school. she started smoking weed, with his father of all people, around the age of 12. he dropped out of school, entirely, after his first year; and he was “on the streets” from then on.

he started stealing, selling weed, even dealing crack once or twice. at 16, he was arrested and he decided it wasn’t worth it. he would jump from one low-paying job to the next: daycare, menards, arby’s, culver’s, subway, wendy’s, marshalls, you name it. he stole cash and clothes to supplement his paltry paychecks.
He finally returns to his streets, starts robbing people with fake guns and BBs. In February 2007, a SWAT team broke into his home and arrested him after tracking a stolen cell phone to his home.

Tall guy was sentenced to six years in prison. he served four. while he was behind bars, he hit his growth spurt and shot up to a towering six-ten. two years after his sentence, he obtained the ged of him.
When he got out, on his brother’s advice, he applied to a Division III school and tried out for the basketball team, which he made. He later transferred to a d1 university, but his days as a player were cut short when he was kicked out after discovering his criminal past.
despite this, high-end car reviews received several offers to play abroad. he ends up signing a contract, and the day before his scheduled departure, he breaks his knee while practicing. there goes that plan.
On the way down, thinking that something has to go right in his life, he currently rents his dream car (a Dodge Hellcat) for $600 a month. It was surreal to drive it every day. he wanted other people to experience that joy of driving the car of their dreams.
“Something came to my mind and I said, ‘I want to make a YouTube and tell people that they can do this too,'” he recalled. And, well, here we are, talking about his net worth, which today stands at approximately $2 million dollars.

when a fellow car enthusiast, todd johnson, pressured him for his secret sauce (how he crossed over a million subscribers on youtube), tall man car reviews read: “i know yourself. be original. be consistent. go hard as f*ck. take leaps of faith and take big risks. do that and be ruthless with everything i just said.”
plus, finding a niche doesn’t hurt. a tall guy explained how he had watched car channels on youtube for six years straight and still no one was serving big guys so he thought “hmm why not me?”
plus he was sick of other youtubers not keeping him 100. they didn’t tell their subscribers how they could drive similar cars. they would lie and act like everything is paid for, and they own it free and clear, when in fact they were actually chartering their rides. tall guy car reviews believed its transparency would set it apart. he was right.
One last thing. tall guy can’t stress this enough: your “why” is everything. “If you’re doing it just because ‘I’m going to do this and this will make me rich,’ you’re doing it for the wrong reason,” he warned.
Passion is a start, sure, but why else are you doing what you’re doing? what is the greatest driving force? The tall guy thinks he’s doing God’s job: encouraging others and showing them what’s possible. and you?
