I moved to LA earlier this year and was ready to get back to icy-bright blonde hair after being a dirty blonde for a while. I had been planning to color my hair for months, but when the stylist said my total would be $400, I knew I had to get a good hair care product to protect my investment.

one of sephora’s associates was quick to point me in the direction of life proof color care shampoo ($29) and conditioner ($29), which she also uses on her own hair.
I had no idea what to expect, but I’m obsessed with their dry shampoo, so I had high hopes. After the first wash, I was surprised to see that my hair looked shinier than before. Sometimes after a visit to the salon, my hair would look flawless, but the color tone would change and it would look yellow or brassy after a couple of washes.

I can report that these two products helped save my hair color.
I’ve used a lot of shampoos and conditioners that say they’re safe for color-treated hair, but in reality, they still strip my color over time and make me feel like my trip to the salon was a waste. I use these products once or twice a week, and each time, my hair feels super clean and looks shiny and fresh. these two products really bring out my highlights and undertones, giving my hair more dimension for that “just walked out of the salon” look.
That being said, it’s no substitute for a purple shampoo if you have an unnatural blonde like me. i still use a purple shampoo as i would daily 10 illuminating shampoo to brighten my hair, and then next time i wash it i will use the viva test products to help amplify that color.
Sometimes, if I’m in a hurry, I just shampoo for a little more color protection, spritz on some detangler, and head out the door. The conditioner also helps with color protection and detangling, but I don’t have time, the shampoo will work just fine.
I can also go longer between washes if I’m not doing anything that makes me sweat a lot. I will not need to use dry shampoo on second or third day hair, but if you normally get greasy roots quickly then you may need the dry shampoo.
what makes shampoo and conditioner stand out
The shampoo and conditioner help prevent fading, UV damage, and hard water breakage, which are all my color-treated hair needs. I am outdoors a lot and the sun affects my hair, so my hair definitely needs a boost.

living proof product development chemist betsy patel says the formulas don’t use ingredients traditionally found in shampoos and conditioners that can be harsh on color-treated hair, such as silicones, sulfates, and parabens.
“the shampoo includes ingredients such as [a new type of] ultraviolet filter, chelating agents that target metals that can affect color, and esters or film formers to replenish [your hair’s] damaged hydrophobic layer”, says to internal reviews. . “The conditioner includes a new UV filter, as well as our new patented fourth-living-proof technology, Lock Molecule (CPULA), which is our color-sealing silicone alternative.”

If you have blonde hair like me, you know it’s almost a chore to maintain. I have a goal of working out five times a week, so it’s annoying to figure out how to keep my hair clean without stripping the color, but this game has made it easier.
It’s not cheap at $29 a bottle, but if I color my hair regularly, I’ll do my best to make sure my color lasts as long as possible. i love how clean my hair feels, how long i can go before i need to wash my hair, and how shiny it looks afterwards.
This is a product that I know I will continue to use, especially during the summer, when my hair tends to brass out much more easily than it does in the winter.
