Exposed skin care reviews | My 30-day test and ingredient analysis

Sure, acne is a nightmare for most of us. No matter what we do, it seems to be resistant to anything available on the skin care market. But then, some brands launched life saving products or more precisely skin-saving products, which quickly became famous.
however, as we all know, fame is one thing, efficacy is another, and for us, it’s obviously the most important side of a product 🙂
Reading: Exposed skin care reviews reddit
exposed skin care is one of those acne treatment lines that we’ve had to try to see if it’s really worth it.
proactiv was without a doubt the most famous acne treatment on the market. but our test with it was pretty disappointing, so we were more than excited to try exposed skincare. i mean elena our tester was more than happy to give it a try after the proactiv trial.
yeah sophie, i was so excited so let’s see what this baby has to offer.
exposed skin care actually took the three products you use with proactiv (and its descendants) and tripled them to nine pieces.
but is nine pieces overkill, or downright deadly? let’s take a look:
a bit of history
In the last decade alone, technology and research have taken us light years ahead in skin care techniques, especially when it comes to anti-aging products. but we still rely on the same products to remove pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. that may seem strange, because pimples are a problem that starts early and sometimes extends until our wrinkles start to form.
but what if we told you that many of your skin problems actually return to acne?
no, it’s not just something to embarrass you at prom: it has long-lasting effects.
However, that has other implications, some good and some bad. the good news is what we’ll focus on here: products that have been developed to treat other skin care concerns can also help with acne problems.
The products you use to stop pimples should do two relatively simple things.
- You need to control your acne.
- It has to nourish your skin.
- cleaning
- toning
- repairing
- cleaner
- toner
- day serum
- night serum
- microdermabrasion cloth
- moisturizer
- exfoliant (for scrubbing)
- probiotic
- clarifying mask
- green tea extract: green tea has been used for years for health benefits, and recent research has shown that it might have an effect on acne-causing bacteria . it has a similar effect to benzoyl peroxide at a concentration of only 3%.
- passion flower extract: although there hasn’t been a lot of research on whether this works for acne, it has been shown to help with inflammation by calming the skin (study). so while it doesn’t treat acne, it prevents it.
- licorice root : is a natural ingredient whose main active molecule is glabridin. studies have shown that it can reduce inflammation, lighten the scar and reduce redness
- aloe vera: study has shown that aloe vera, a recent “trend” product, can be used to soothe inflammation, which is a perfect way to at least reduce the appearance of pimples.
- Tea tree oil: This is a very popular essential oil with antibacterial properties. studies have shown tea tree oil to be effective in treating bacterial infections, especially acne.
- benzoyl peroxide: proactiv started with benzoyl peroxide, but now almost every product has it because it just works. however, studies show that it works best if it can reach the deeper layers of the skin, which many common products cannot. Unlike other products, Exposed Acne Treatment puts benzoyl peroxide in the fast lane for delivery by encasing it in microcapsules that reach the lowest layer of skin.
- Sulfur: This ingredient is known to help absorb excess oil and unclog pores. many studies show that it can actually help improve acne skin.
- Salicylic Acid: A new weapon in the fight against acne, salicylic acid removes dead skin cells and unblocks pores. using a peel that contains salicylic acid helps the skin absorb nutrients.
- Glycolic Acid: This glycolic acid works in the dermis layer of the skin, much deeper than other products can reach. if you have severe acne, this active is a very good option as shown by several clinical studies.
- azelaic acid: This acid is really effective in helping to normalize the shedding of dead skin cells and open up the skin pores. that way, we can reduce inflammation while avoiding excessive buildup of skin cells around the skin follicle.
- the size of the cleanser is 120 ml, (proactiv+: 60 ml)
- toner size is 120ml (proactiv+: 30ml)
- the size of the moisturizer is 50 ml (proactiv+: 30 ml)
- the serum/gel is 50 ml (proactiv+: 3o ml)
- with another serum and a cloth
- it is not simply based on benzoyl peroxide, but combines its power with other effective ingredients.
- combines science and nature to give you the best results with fewer side effects.
- 4.5 stars on amazon and over 100,000 satisfied customers.
but how do you do that? with three steps:
Your skin is complicated, your pimples are complicated, so why would you think “one simple product” would be the best way to combat it?
exposed skin care took those two simple things and developed them into nine treatments you can try for better, healthier skin:
These products use natural active ingredients and have specific components that have been mixed to combat acne and its effects.
When you use all nine steps, some users have reported amazing results. you can bet that after the fiasco trial i had with proactiv plus i wanted to try this acne kit and have my own opinion…

our brutal review of acne-prone skincare
Let’s get started with our exposed skin care review and testing, which will help us answer the one question that matters: does exposed skin care work?
face cleanser
ingredients:
active ingredient: salicylic acid (0.5%)
purified water, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium olefin sulfonate, acrylate copolymer, triethanolamine, propylene glycol, polyquaternium-7, panthenol, phenoxyethanol, disodium edta, fragrance oil, salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, citric acid
This is a very simple formulation with a beta hydroxy acid (salicylic acid) to remove dead skin cells. The dosage is low (0.5%) here, but it’s fine for a cleanser as the main job is to cleanse and remove dirt from your face. We have 2 surfactants used here to cleanse the skin by helping water mix with oil and dirt so they can be easily rinsed away. the good thing is that these are not sulfates per se. (the debate for vs. sodium lauryl sulfate is still going on lol)
Cocoamidopropyl betaine and sodium olefin sulfonate are generally made from coconut oil and are considered mild and safe ingredients. however, this combination clearly falls into the deep cleaning category. it certainly could have been milder with other surfactants, but for acne and oily skin, it may be appropriate. furthermore, it also depends on the final percentages of this combination of surfactants. At the end of the day, it’s the entire formulation that really matters.
This cleanser is paraben free. and i also like the addition of provitamin b5 (panthenol) which is an effective moisturizer and moisturizer that certainly helps prevent a drying effect after cleansing, and sage extract (salvia officinalis) which is known to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.
first impressions:
I was pleasantly surprised as this cleanser is actually quite gentle. I was a bit afraid that it would be too harsh for my skin, but it seems that the cosmetic formulators did not incorporate too high a dose of surfactants and balanced it out well with moisturizers and moisturizers. after cleansing, my face feels clean and not super tight. this maintains the lipid layer of the skin as they say. We’ll see how it goes after the 30-day trial.
clarifying toner
ingredients:
active ingredient: salicylic acid (1.0%) inactive ingredients purified water, glycolic acid, propylene glycol, witch hazel extract (witch hazel), dimethylethanolamine, phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxide, camellia sinensis leaf (green tea extract) , passion flower edulis (passion flower extract), aloe barbadensis leaf extract, salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, aromatic oils.
The toner is clearly natural oriented with lots of herbal extracts. That’s a very good point, supporting his claim about the combination of nature and science. (yes, many brands claim things that are far from true). witch hazel extract, known for its skin-soothing benefits, is a smart addition to the formula. I usually use a witch hazel toner to help with my irritated skin.
This product is also paraben free, as is the cleanser. we have 1% salicylic acid (a higher percentage than we had with the cleanser), which is perfectly normal since the toner or toner is meant to start and prepare acne treatment.
Another point in favor is that it does not contain alcohol; I hate toners with alcohol that dry out the skin in the long run. Some brands add alcohol to give that instant, quick oil control feeling, so you think: wow, that product is effective! but the trick is that those magical results are only temporary while you prepare your skin for more breakouts when your skin wakes up ;(
why? because alcohol basically stimulates oil production, so the immediate degreasing effect is eventually followed by oily skin that produces even more oil and more breakouts.
first impressions:
I really like the toner; It has a nice calming and cooling effect on my skin right after using the cleanser. it gives you that extra clean feeling that tells you you’re on the right track to healthy pores and glowing skin 😉 (I recommend keeping it in the fridge for an even more refreshing feeling)
although I’m not a big fan of the scent; but it’s not very strong, so it doesn’t bother me that much.
acne treatment serum
ingredients:
active ingredient: benzoyl peroxide (3.5%) (bp)
inactive ingredients water, glycerin, propanediol, carbomer, camellia oleifera leaf extract (green tea extract), melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, edta disodium, sodium hydroxide.
the acne treatment serum is the day serum in your routine; It’s also pretty natural in orientation, with a light and direct formula that obviously uses benzoyl peroxide as its focal point. It has 3.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide, which is a good level that will help you improve your acne progressively. you can certainly find much higher dosages, but it would require more monitoring by a dermatologist, as it can really irritate your skin with too drastic dosages. I’m generally in favor of a gentler but consistent action for long-term results.
This active treatment is also packed with excellent moisturizing agents like glycerin and propanediol to counteract the drying effect of benzoyl peroxide.
formulators also added a bit of green tea extract to protect the skin and tea tree oil, which has excellent antiseptic and antifungal properties. Tea tree oil is known to work just as well as benzoyl peroxide (BP) in managing acne symptoms, so by adding this essential oil, they didn’t have to use too drastic a dose of BP, which can be drying. a lot.
first impressions:
The acne treatment serum is very light and feels really effective. It is also very useful for spot treatment to get rid of pimples quickly. even my boyfriend tried it for a pimple that appeared out of nowhere, and bam! the next day, the pimple was gone.
She liked the fact that it is not heavy on the face and is very effective. so he was very excited to see what he would do with the acne after a month.
clear pore serum
ingredients:

active ingredient: salicylic acid (1.0%)
inactive ingredients purified water, distilled witch hazel (witch hazel), glycerin, propylene glycol, peg 120 methyl glucose dioleate, polyquaternium-37, hydrogenated polydecene, tricedeth-6, spirea ulmaria extract, extract Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root, basil oil, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, dl panthenol, fragrance, phenoxyethanol.
the clear pore serum is the night serum, and like the day serum (acne treatment serum) it is also naturally oriented with 1% salicylic acid, to help unclog pores and make them smaller and less noticeable. It also includes witch hazel found in the clarifying toner. that’s a good point, especially for a night product to soothe irritated skin and let your skin rest easy 🙂
I also wish formulators would completely replace purified water with hazelnut water. it would have been even more effective. (but also more expensive)
It does not contain parabens and they have also added a botanical extract to help with inflammation (licorice extract) and hydration (glycerin, panthenol -provitamin b5).
first impressions:
it’s a slightly thicker gel than the day serum (acne treatment serum) but also very light. it’s easy to apply and it smells nice (again not my favorite scent but ok). I do not feel dryness or stinginess. so it sounds promising for the first night. This serum can also be used for the treatment of blemishes. we will see how my pores will look after 30 days j
moisturizing complex
ingredients:
purified water, cyclopentasiloxane and peg/ppg-18/18 dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane and dimethiconol/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, cyclopentasiloxane and dimethiconol, propylene glycol, cyclopentasiloxane, phenyltrimethicone, c30-c45 alkyl methicone, acrylamide copolymer, oleth-10, optiphen, cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed, mixed tocopherols (vitamin e), camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, edta disodium, polysorbate 85, caffeine, sucrose, medica limonum citrus extract.
ok, although I really liked the composition of the previous products, this complex moisturizer is probably my least favorite product of the entire line. it’s basically a gel with different types of silicones, which “locks in moisture” as silicones are well known for being a bit occlusive. I’m not against a bit of silicone, as the semi-occlusive properties can be helpful in “protecting” the skin from the environment, but I’m concerned here.
I would have preferred a more natural gel base. however, this silicone gel could be a nice asset in counteracting the drying effect of benzoyl peroxide, by retaining moisture. the other good advantage (and there aren’t many hahaha) is that it is quite useful for irritated skin, since it isolates the skin from external aggressions.
In addition to its silicone base, this moisturizing complex is paraben-free, as is the case with the entire line, and includes some pleasant extracts such as pumpkin seed and caffeine to soothe irritations and reduce inflammation, and extract of green tea to protect the skin. skin with antioxidants.
but I really wish it was more natural…
first impressions:
This exposed hydrating complex is an oil-free gel that feels light and doesn’t leave your face greasy. I did have some concerns though, I have to admit my skin felt moisturized on the first day of use, you really don’t need to use a lot for the entire face so that may help prevent any buildup 😉 still, keep in mind my skin is oily to start with so i just need a light moisturizer. for people with drier skin, it probably won’t cut it. (mind you, I guess most of us with acne have oily skin, so it’s not a real problem)
lightening mask
ingredients:
active ingredients: sulfur (3.0%), resorcinol (2.0%)
inactive ingredients bentonite, coal powder, camphor, chloroxylenol, glycerin, magnesium aluminum silicate, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, polyacrylate-6 crosspolymer, propanediol, propylene glycol, sodium cocoyl isethionate, stearic acid, water (aqua ), zinc oxide.
This exposed clarifying mask is a purifying bentonite and charcoal based mask to absorb excess oil and remove toxins/impurities. Those 2 ingredients are absolute classics that are indisputably effective, so I know they’ll do the trick, at least for excess oil and toxins.
the real advantage is the addition of the active ingredients: sulfur (3.0%), resorcinol (2.0%).
sulfur also helps absorb excess oil, and resorcinol is an effective antiseptic and disinfectant often used in over-the-counter acne treatments in the same 2% concentrations; it basically helps to get rid of acne bacteria.
so this mask has a really nice composition to make our skin look clear and healthy.
first impressions:
to set the record straight, I love masks (in fact, we all do at myawesomebeauty.com), so I couldn’t wait to try them out.
and right after the first use I was very pleased with the result, skin felt super fresh and clean with that blissful and light feeling after a good facial.
and the bonus? my blackheads were also much less visible as the mask absorbed a good layer of oxidized sebum… you know, that blackhead in every pore ;( beer…
normally we should use it 1-2 times a week to remove blackheads and reduce acne, but I really wanted to use it every day haha
microderm scrub
ingredients:
chamomile extract, aluminum oxide, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, sunflower seed oil, capric/caprylic triglycerides, cetearyl glucoside, glycerin, vitamin e acetate, ethylhexyl stearate, phenoxyethanol, capryl glycol, xanthan gum , mango seed butter, grapeseed oil, sodium metabisulfite, sorbic acid, diazolidinyl urea, potassium sorbate
This is a scrub that uses similar crystals (aluminum oxide) to the ones used in the microdermabrasion kit to help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. It helps reveal clearer skin and promotes cell renewal, which in turn helps to remove acne scars and marks. the scrub has a very good list of natural ingredients, which as you know is a big plus for us.
I really like the fact that the formulators added a bit of aloe vera (aloe barbadensis leaf extract) and a bit of chamomile extract which works wonders to hydrate and soothe the skin. (Aloe is a real winner for speeding healing of wounds and burns.)
The microderm scrub is paraben-free and is also packed with many pleasant actives like mango seed butter and grapeseed oil that will nourish the new layer of skin.
first impressions:
It has a very pleasant texture and the crystals are very small to the touch, so the exfoliation is very soft, which avoids irritation problems with this type of exfoliants. I like it a lot.
However, even if the crystals are small, people with severely irritated skin should wait until their skin is stronger and healthier before trying it.
First, your skin needs to be repaired and once your skin is more balanced, you’ll also enjoy a nice exfoliating feeling (oh, you might think I’m a weirdo with that need for that clean, exfoliating feeling, yeah I don’t know why, I’m addicted to that great feeling of being clean and fresh after a mask or scrub haha)
derm x cloth
the derm-x wipe is included in the 3 treatment kits proposed per exposure.
is a microdermabrasion wipe that helps exfoliate dead skin cells. some of our friends used it with the whole treatment, but not me. the reason is simple, i think it can help, but there is a higher risk of bacteria development if you don’t wash carefully.
This is a personal choice and I wanted to be clear and direct about it.
We know that acne is basically a problem of bacteria. so if we want to get rid of this annoying acne, we must reduce our skin’s contact with bacteria.
The thing is, our skin is often in contact with dirt and germs that can lead to acne. When you sleep, your pillow is in contact with skin oils and saliva (yes, we all do haha, don’t be shy), so it’s a breeding ground for bacteria that can definitely make acne worse. the same goes for unwashed makeup brushes, which can spread bacteria to our skin.
That’s why we should wash our makeup brushes every week and change our pillowcases regularly.
so, in my opinion, wearing the same fabric every day can be a problem. of course if we wash it it shouldn’t be a real problem but let’s be real I know I can be lazy sometimes and I’m sure I won’t wash it every day like I should so to be safe I preferred not to wear it during the 30 days of treatment.
probiotic complex
Probiotics are known to help balance our bodies from the inside out, especially by promoting a stronger immune system. the probiotic complex is a mixture of vitamins (a, e) minerals (zinc, copper, chromium, selenium) some botanical extract (milk thistle, black walnut) to help detoxification and, of course, probiotics with some oligosaccharides to promote a good digestion and development of probiotics.
this probiotic complex seems to be a very well thought out supplement to help achieve clearer and healthier skin.
Unfortunately, when I received the products from the myawesomebeauty.com team, I lost the complex. sophie and chris couldn’t replace it for this test, so note that i didn’t use the complex for this test even though just because of the ingredient list, i would have liked to, as i’m a big fan of probiotics… anyway, my bad. I’m sorry.
results of my exposed skin care after 30 days
I’ve tried the proactiv system, as some of you know here, but I definitely didn’t like it, so how were my results with the exposed skin care?
Well, I was very pleased with the results after 30 days. I can’t say that my acne is gone, which is quite normal as it would probably take 2-3 months for best results, but after 30 days, the results are really great.
(for those of you who expect instant results after 30 days, forget it, let’s face it, our skin is living tissue and it takes time to balance)
if I had to give a rough estimate, I would say almost 40-50% of my acne and pimples are gone! I knew the journey would be long, but now I hope to use the treatments for 2-3 months…

so, to the question: if caring for exposed skin is good, I would answer yes, however, it must be constant.
However, there were some flaws in the process.
The first 2-3 days of treatment were fantastic; I didn’t have any particular problems and I thought it would be a smooth trip…. in fact, not really, because after the 4th day, I started to get some dryness, my skin was also a bit irritated. It was really drying out my skin, so much so that I even considered stopping the treatment.
Anyway, I decided to modify the routine to see if it would help. i stopped using the benzoyl peroxide acne treatment serum but continued to use the other products. the dryness disappeared the next day.
so I figured it was due to the benzoyl peroxide in the acne treatment serum being perhaps too strong.
I used other treatments with higher doses of benzoyl peroxide when I was younger, so I think the reason my skin was so sensitive was because of the salicylic acid in the cleanser and toner.
because it helped remove dead skin cells, my skin was probably more sensitive. so i decided to leave the acne serum treatment for about 10 days.
After those 10 days, I added the acne serum back into the routine and this time the dryness was gone. so I guess my skin needed some time to adjust and be ready for all the acne treatment.
As a side note: I noticed that even without the benzoyl peroxide serum, I could clearly see my acne improve over the 10 days.
so if you try this treatment, remember to go slow and listen to your skin. if you feel dry, stop using the day serum for a while and see how your skin feels… you can also use the day serum every other day.
Anyway, be prepared to experiment, as everyone has different skin…
Also remember not to use too much serum, as a small amount is more than enough to be effective. using too much benzoyl peroxide serum can lead to dryness and irritation.
remember that less is more and build from there as your skin prepares and strengthens. that way, you will avoid that dryness problem that other users found when using this acne kit.
We later learned that benzoyl peroxide commonly causes dryness early on, but skin usually gets stronger and “fixes” this dryness problem after a week or so. so once your skin has adjusted, you can increase the amount of serum to use.
so, for people with very oily skin, this stage of dryness is almost imperceptible, while for people with more sensitive or drier skin, they will have a hard time to bear (which explains the reviews on amazon reporting the dryness)
if it’s really too painful, the solution is to skip the day serum (which contains benzoyl peroxide) for a few days to make your skin stronger, then add it back into the routine;
this should help you avoid that annoying stage of dry and irritated skin 🙂
however, keep in mind that we all have different skin, so even if you needed a 10-day break, it doesn’t mean you’ll need the same duration, it can be more, it can be less… yes, sorry to repeat that : listen to your skin.

is it expensive?
comparing this line to other lines that sell their products for $50-60, exposed skin care is much more affordable with an average price of $18-25 per product. it is quite profitable with well formulated products.
exposed skin care doesn’t use celebrities or flashy tv ads so they can offer much better prices.
The good thing is also that it exposes proposes kits for the first time with a 40% – 53% discount compared to getting the products individually.
propose a kit of 3 products, a kit of 6 products or a kit of 9 products
$69 with a 6-product kit (without autoship) / (with autoship called membership: $59)
this kit will last between 1.5 and 2 months
they also offer a 1 year money back guarantee – yes, 365 days – that’s pretty amazing since most other brands offer a 60 day money back guarantee as well that for one year you can basically try their products risk-free and return it if you’re not satisfied… for your money back. (I love those money-back guarantee offers, don’t you?)
check the official website here for their different kits (basic, expanded, ultimate)
other reviews on caring for exposed skin
although this acne line is not endorsed by justin bieber or another big name celebrity, that doesn’t matter. those famous people are paid a lot of money anyway to review the products. so let’s focus on the comments or reviews of real users like you and me.
check out this review:
“I sent in my old proactiv bottles for an extra discount on the 4-step system. I was expecting something very similar to proactiv, but was very surprised at how much better the exposed method actually was. proactive was able to clear up most of my acne but i always seem to suffer from cycles of mild breakouts, redness and dryness. with the acne solution exposed, the breakouts never came back. exposed seems to be more effective in balancing my skin and keeping it consistently clean. thank you exposed.” -sara b.
amazon and the exposed skin care website are full of reviews like this from people who seem to have had great results. these are people who don’t have full makeup kits and chefs who can help them on their way to clear skin.
our final verdict
exposed acne treatment is definitely a comprehensive system worth trying. it is hands down one of our top 3 acne treatments. is a very well thought out skin care line that is quite effective in clearing up acne.
it is better than many other products because:
It will take some time for your skin to improve, however, as it needs to get rid of acne-causing bacteria, unclog pores, balance itself, and restore a healthy foundation.
benzoyl peroxide is a great asset to speed up the process but its use can be tricky, especially for sensitive and dry skin.
update: we tried an acne skin care without benzoyl peroxide and were very impressed with the results.
so we would say if you have fairly severe acne then exposure would be the right choice, but if your acne is more moderate we really think you should give zenmed a try as you won’t have to deal with that dryness. emission of benzoyl peroxide.
where to get the best deal? where to buy exposed skin care online?
To get the best deal, the best place to buy is the official website, as you will benefit from the 1-year money back guarantee, which is quite unusual and says a lot about their products.
Please note, however, that I do not recommend that you purchase products individually, as it will be much more expensive for you. you’re better off picking one of their special kits at a substantial discount (40-53%), which gets you a 6 piece kit for $69 (that makes $11 per product, which is pretty cheap and worth it in my opinion). ). and sometimes they offer freebies and promo codes or coupons 🙂
