In a pre-COVID-19 world, I was traveling on an airplane several times a month, and in order not to induce a second hernia, I had to reduce the panoply of products that sat on too many shelves in my bathroom at home. luckily my paris and london based dermatologist dr. antoni calmon, made my life so easy when he told me i could get away with a morning application of skinceuticals c e ferulic serum, a generic spf 50 sunblock (although i barely laid eyes on the sun for most of spring 2020), and differin skin cream at night before bed. (If I really wanted to pamper myself at home, I could assuage the tingle with a luxurious moisturizer – La Mer’s Moisturizing Smooth Cream is my first choice here, but after one of the bottles broke in my luggage, I decided not to travel with it though!) I’m sure the clothes in it have never had a silkier fabric softener!)

I have super dry skin and this avène cleanser is absolutely perfect. After removing my makeup, I apply it liberally and simply wipe away the excess with a damp cotton ball. I find that the leave-in formula really locks in moisture. I’ve also been using embryolisse for years now, nothing has come close to beating it!

i have been using sk-ii facial treatment essence religiously morning and night, winter and summer for years. It’s a lightweight serum (so lightweight it feels like water), doesn’t clog or irritate my fussy skin, has almost no odor, and works to give me a healthy glow with all the moisture I need in the summer and a reliable layer in the winter. (I always layer moisturizing products in the cold months, as one is never enough.) Although it is expensive, a bottle lasts me exactly one year, something I can’t say often.

I’ve been vaguely following the benefits of vitamin c and retinol, so when i came across kate somerville’s two-in-one cream, i was intrigued. Apparently, using the two ingredients together can cause irritation, but that hasn’t been the case for me; in fact, the moisturizer seems to prevent the drying that can sometimes occur with retinol. an added bonus: taking a step out of my routine means one less thing to worry about, means less stress, means better skin, or so I like to think!

It is very difficult to pick just one holy grail. My skin has been transformed in the last year after religiously doing my morning and night routines (I literally don’t skip a day!). keeping my skin balanced and hydrated is key to glowing and supple skin. i rely on the klur serum to boost hydration on a daily basis and the avène mist to refresh me throughout the day. As far as eye creams go, I swear by skinceuticals a.g.e. Eye complex to quell dark circles and fine lines. I discovered the new signature line during a luxury trip to the cipriani home spa, where incredibly knowledgeable (on another level) facialist sam susca let me know it’s now his brand of choice after trying everything, and it even works well for reactive skin. The author worked with German hospitals and scientists to develop super-concentrated ingredients with smart delivery systems, all vetted by European Union cosmetic standards and, unlike the United States, require pre-market safety assessments and much, much more. . feels like hermès skincare for the price and quality, although the products don’t have to be used every day (or night, which I prefer) to work, and the ultimate hyaluron activating serum in this set of hydration it seems that I already know a star for a skin with a mirror finish.

This may sound a little left-wing, but I have to say, classic dove bar soap is my all-time hero item. I never go off when i cleanse my face with dove, and it is gentle enough not to strip my skin of moisture. my mom always recommended dove soap to me, and it turns out she was right!

if you don’t double cleanse or use a make-up remover balm: let me convert you. the makeup remover wipes irritated my skin and eyes, and the oils left too much of a sticky residue, so i turned to clinique’s take the day off cleansing balm. It starts out as a silky balm, turns into an oil on the skin, and then washes away like a facial cleanser, taking all your makeup and dirt with it. Bonus points for sustainability (no single-use wipes!) and if you put a little on a Q-tip, you can precisely wipe away mascara marks that fall off or stray. And even if you don’t wear a lot of makeup, beauty gurus say that washing your face without a double cleanse is like taking a shower with your clothes on. converted yet? Plus if i had a dollar for every time someone has complimented my skin since i used jan marini bioglycolic facial cleanser… i would buy another bottle and give it to you. Holy grail glycolic acid based cleanser that has totally retexturized my skin.

My current favorite is “the problem solver” which, like dirt, is a powder that you mix with water to form a foam that you put on your face like a mask. yes, it’s a bit expensive, but it really does last forever; in fact, when the full-size jar I ordered arrived, my first thought was, “maybe this jar is too big?” i had a baby in january so my skin has been going through it but i feel like this is really helping.
