there’s a simulator for just about anything these days; from cooking and farming, to something more wacky, like the next bee simulator. It’s safe to say that if you want to enjoy simulating something specific, chances are there’s a game out there that will scratch your itch. Car Mechanic Simulator, as mentioned in the title, allows you to take on the role of a car mechanic and allows you to build and expand your repair service empire in what is described as an incredibly detailed and very realistic experience.
How much of that is true? most of it, actually. If he never knew how to fix cars but always wondered what all the fuss was about or if it was as complex as it seems, this is your chance to find out. I will say this, for a game that tries to simulate something that is already as hard to understand as it is, car mechanic sim does an amazing job of giving you the experience. here, newcomers are welcomed with open arms and given all the information they need to ensure they’re on the same level as veterans of the genre.

There’s no story in the traditional sense of the phrase, but rather a general framework that sees you running a near-constant cycle of engine repair. there are a few modes to select; normal, normal without tutorial, sandbox and expert. you’ll get pretty much the same experience with or, and they’re all pretty self-explanatory when it comes to game modes. if you are a newcomer I would definitely recommend starting from normal. here, you’ll get a helpful tutorial that’s a great support for those (like me) wet behind the ears.
while the tutorial doesn’t really teach you the basics, it does allow you to enjoy a fully unlocked garage and will show you everything you can get and use in the main event. finishing the tutorial consists of fixing one of the two available cars; refill oil in one car or build a car engine in the other. that sounds basic, but in practice, it really helps to have a more hands-on approach to a game of this type. however, once complete, you will be able to test drive the car and from there the real work begins.
Getting started, you start working in a basic garage with nothing more than simple tasks to perform; change of brake pads, change of oil filters, and more. yes, this could have been saved for the tutorial, but it works fine anyway. the more time you put in, the deeper the game will go, and before long, you’ll level up and earn skill points to upgrade and expand your garage and its capabilities. pretty much everything you do in the game will earn you points that will indirectly help you level up. it is an ordered structure.
Basically, this means that something as basic as removing a part, or even replacing a component, will earn you some points. these points will accumulate, and once you reach the required amount, you’ll gain a single skill point that you can then use to level up your overall build. This can be anything from speed improvement, which allows faster unscrewing of bolts and screws, to something more mechanically useful, like checking for problems more quickly. The entire progression system is fluid, easy to digest, but still robust.
Simulators are notorious for being overly complicated, or even overly obtuse at times, so it was refreshing to find one that was not only deep and engaging, but also accessible. Talking more specifically about how the car works, I won’t go into full detail because you can literally reduce a car to nothing, but the general functionality of how everything works is easy and simple to achieve. in fact, the only real issue you’ll need to monitor is your cash and how much you have left, but even then, there’s a lot to do to keep things afloat.

When you start, you will select the car you want to work on and once delivered, you will drive it to the area you want to repair it. You will then go to work identifying problems with the car and then fix said problems by removing old and broken parts and replacing them with new ones through an in/out mechanic. in fact, you’ll need to be aware of the parts you’re removing during the breakdown process, as you’ll need to make records on your computer and then order the correct parts needed. like I said, it’s very detailed.
Wrong parts naturally equals no repair and wastes your money. Once you’ve ordered the correct parts, they’ll automatically be added to your inventory and then it’s all about putting the new parts and components in place of the ones that were removed. In fact, you’ll need to put your car back together as well, but thanks to how well everything handles, it never feels like a slog. Don’t worry if you don’t have the best of memories and find it easy to forget things you’ve deconstructed, because the game has a pretty smart system to fall back on here.
You see, there’s a sorted reassembly mode (at least under normal conditions) that roughly describes where the pieces will fit into place. This also lists the vast array of parts that make up your chosen vehicle, which is surprising if, like me, you have no idea what a cracked left arm or sway bar is. That’s one of my favorite things about the car mechanic simulator, it never makes you feel like an idiot, and it comes with just the right amount of leeway to make even the least car-savvy person feel at home, while while retaining their depth and complexity.
the game gets more involved as it progresses. For example, later on, you’ll get a car to fix that literally says little more than makes a weird noise. While it’s your job to identify and repair said problem, you get some useful tools to use once you’ve expanded your garage and its capabilities. The technical machines and tools you unlock will give you more insight to troubleshoot, but before you get to the right good stuff, you’ll need to rely on common sense to remedy such glitches and a bit of trial and error.
see a rusty part? remove it and put in a shiny new one. See something that looks like an elephant is dancing on it? you guessed it! take it out and put in a new one. To say that an entire game has been modeled around this framework, and yet never gets tired or old, is quite an achievement. the realism is nothing short of commendable; From fixing cars to using power tools to buying parts, everything is well balanced, well set up, and downright fun. the only drawbacks lie in the insanely loud game audio and long load times.
Still, for all the things the game does right, these few flaws are easy to overlook. Going back, once you think you’ve fixed a car, you can open a circular menu and select the status of the car; with a simple green tick or a red cross to let you know if you’ve done your job correctly. this alone makes failure feel more like the product of lack of perception than outright failure, and pulling yourself together to take another peek under the proverbial hood is about as easy as can be. there is even a tracker present that will give you hints to help you.
this highlights every broken part in blue, giving you instant access to faults you’d otherwise spend a lot of time trying to locate without it. I honestly can’t sing enough praise for the game for what it is. Removed, old, or defective parts will be added to your inventory, which you can sell them to for scrap income. however, you can repair specific parts for later reuse. With all said and done, you won’t just be working on customer cars. no no no, there’s more to overall car work than meets the eye.

as you complete the long chain of campaign cars, you’ll earn crates containing high-end loot; essentially, pretty expensive gear that you can put to great use out of, and if you’re really lucky, you’ll get a barn find. this is where the treats sit. Barn Finds grant access to vintage vintage cars that you can buy. Expensive, indeed, but well worth it if given the proper time and effort. It’s small details like this that set the car mechanic simulator apart from other simulation games of a similar type; providing plenty of things to do and an impressive degree of refinement.
There are a total of forty-eight cars to get your hands on, over ten tools to help you on your way, and over a thousand awesome parts scattered throughout the game. that’s a lot! The game stays up to date thanks to the fact that jobs are randomly generated, so you never really know what you’re going to be assigned. you might get something simple and straightforward, or something that is headache-inducing; They vary in difficulty and time constraints. the life of a mechanic, huh? naturally, the price of each task will be set accordingly.
it helps make the gameplay smooth and responsive throughout the game. Everything from stripping a car to stripping it completely bare to tuning and painting remains intuitive and precise. the same can be said of anything else you can do, where there is a lot to do. There’s even a junkyard you can visit to buy old cars and parts to help you elsewhere, and an auction you can attend to bid on the cars of your choice. be careful on the latter, it can be hard to stay ahead of the deals.
When you’re not under the hood, chances are you’re taking a car for a spin or testing it at various checkups. Car Mechanic Simulator lets you drive cars you work on and cars you own in a variety of locations. The driving mechanics aren’t the best, but it does the job to ensure everything feels diverse and dynamic. It also helps that the game’s locations vary considerably, which keeps repetition at bay. I’ve learned quite a bit about cars just by playing this, and I don’t plan on leaving the game any time soon.
The game sports licensed cars from both Mazda and Jeep, which should please those of you who enjoy that extra layer of realism. While the car models are all quite distinguished, they don’t appear to be flawless. Don’t get me wrong, the effort that has gone into here is remarkable, but a little more care and attention to detail wouldn’t have gone amiss. the overall look and sound of the game has my approval. It’s not the most attractive game on the market, but it’s far from the worst. it has enough visual detail and audio distinction to see it.
When all is said and done, this is likely to surprise you as much as it did me. I didn’t expect the game to be as fun, deep and practical as it is, while still being very easy to pick up. there’s something particularly appealing about starting from scratch and working your way up by absorbing the game’s almost endless and intriguing gameplay. Despite its few drawbacks, this is one of the best sims I’ve played in a long time, and one that literally goes out of its way to make you feel comfortable right out of the box. I’ve put in the hours and I still feel like I’m level with the surface.

The car mechanic sim can be a bit rough around the edges when it comes to optimization, but specifically when it comes to its features and mechanics, it’s easily one of the most well-rounded sims in recent memory. furthermore, it doesn’t alienate the inexperienced and instead does a wonderful job of keeping its deep gameplay and deep systems accessible and easy to digest.
